Your questions answered

Find everything you need to know about the practical side of booking your relaxing massage with us here. If your question isn't answered on this page then please get in touch.

Before your treatment

When you book an appointment online, you'll receive a confirmation once the booking has been accepted and then another 24 hours before your appointment. In the day or two before your first appointment, we'll send you a link to an online consultation form to be completed with a few practical, medical and lifestyle questions. The initial consultation helps us to tailor your treatment from with a holistic approach in mind. If there's anything you'd prefer to discuss in person just leave it blank and we can talk about it at your appointment. More information about how and why we store your personal information can be found further down the page. On the whole, massage is a very safe and effective practice, however there are occasions where it may not be suitable. From the information you provide, your therapist can assess whether massage would be suitable whilst avoiding affected areas, or whether medical approval should be sought before the treatment. It's important to note that we are not medical professionals, therefore it would be inappropriate and unethical to try and diagnose any condition. If there's anything health related that you're concerned about, we would urge you to speak to your GP or other appropriate health care professional.

The logistics

Details of our opening hours and a map of where we are located can be found on our contact page. If you are driving to your appointment, there is plenty of free parking in Pocklington, including a few spaces on Regent Street and many more around the corner on Market Place and Railway Street. If you're struggling to find a parking space, there is also a larger long stay car park off Robertson Close (at the end of the road between the two Aldi car parks). Please be aware that most parking in the town centre (except the long stay car park) has a two hour limit and is regularly patrolled, which should be plenty of time for your appointment, but perhaps not enough if you're planning to explore the lovely local independent shops or have lunch afterwards. When you arrive at Clifford House, please come straight into the building and up the stairs straight ahead. There is a small waiting area and toilet facilities. Your therapist will let you know when the room is ready for you. Please note that our treatment space is on the first floor, accessed by quite a steep staircase. Regrettably there is no lift in the building.

During your treatment

We want you to be as comfortable as possible so that you can get the most out of your massage. We'll make sure that the room is warm and inviting. We'll have soft and twinkly lighting, aromatherapy oils and soft music playing in the background.  All towels and linens will be replaced between each client and the room is cleaned regularly.  Before your treatment we'll talk to you about what you'd like to get out of the massage, what sort of pressure you prefer, and whether you have any problem or painful areas to either work on or be aware of. We'll also discuss anything arising from your consultation form. Active consent will be obtained from you to ensure you are comfortable going ahead with your treatment. Your therapist will explain more about the treatment and how to position yourself on the massage table. We'll leave the room and let you get comfortable. Throughout your treatment, only the area we're working on will be exposed, so your dignity will be maintained. Remember this is your treatment - if you want to chat, that's fine with us, or if you want to relax with no talking that's absolutely fine too, we don't even mind if you drift off to sleep. If anything at all is interrupting your enjoyment of the massage (for example the temperature, music, level of pressure, your positioning on table etc), please do let us know so that we can try and make things right. We want you to feel like you're floating on a cloud.

Products/massage mediums used

During consultation we will ask you about any allergies and confirm the products we'll be using on the day. We do have alternative products available to use on the occasion that you'd prefer something else or are not sure about whether or not you'll react to any ingredients (although so far, so good!). At the moment, Apricot Kernel oil is predominantly used during treatments, which is pre-blended with a small amount of polysorbate 85 -  this makes the oil water dispersible, and therefore easy to wash out of clothes (and towels!). It's a very mild and gentle blend, suitable for all skin types. During facial massages, either organic rosehip oil or one of Neal's Yard's multi-purpose balms is used, which again are suitable for all skin types and will leave your face beautifully radiant and hydrated. No oil is used during scalp massages, although please be aware that there may be a small amount of residue left on the surface of the hair and around the hairline.

Aftercare

Of course we hope that you enjoy your treatment so much that you'd like to come back for another. There is absolutely no pressure at your treatment to rebook, but if you would like to, just either use the online booking page or contact us to see when we can fit you in. Whilst we hope the only side effect of your treatment is deep relaxation, we know that massage can sometimes cause minor side effects such as dehydration, a runny nose or feeling lightheaded. To avoid this, in the 12-24 hours following your massage we recommend that you: - Drink plenty of water - Avoid caffeine or alcohol - Avoid strenuous activity - Take time to rest and relax

Payment

We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards (as well your gift voucher, if you're lucky enough to have one).

Gift vouchers

Take a look at our gift vouchers page for more information or to purchase online. Vouchers are valid for 6 months from date of purchase. Please get in touch before purchasing if you have any special requirements. As a small, independent business, we would kindly ask that you use your voucher before its expiry date to avoid disappointment. As a general rule extensions cannot be made, however if you have extenuating circumstances, please get in touch and we'll do everything we can to accommodate you.

Pamper party/holiday accommodation booking notes

Once we've agreed a date and package for your pamper party, we'll ask for a deposit of £50, or £5 per person (whichever is greater) to be paid to secure the date. The remaining balance will be payable on the day before the event. We'll talk about the location of your event in our initial discussion, but generally, if the venue is more than 10 miles away from Pocklington, we'll ask for a small additional cost to cover mileage for the therapist(s) attending, which we'll confirm with you before you go ahead with the booking. Visit the holiday and pamper party pages of our website to find out more.

Pregnancy massage booking notes

Whilst there is no evidence to suggest that massage during pregnancy is anything other than relaxing and restorative, following professional association guidelines means that this treatment is only suitable from the second trimester of pregnancy (after your 12 week scan), up until your due date. Prior to your first appointment we will send you our standard consultation form to fill out, and during the consultation at the appointment we will talk through a few separate questions relating to your pregnancy. Please be aware that our treatment room is located on the first floor of Clifford House which is accessed up a fairly narrow staircase. If you have any concerns about accessibility please let us know beforehand and we can discuss options to accommodate you. There are toilet facilities to use at any point before, during or after your treatment - please don't suffer in silence! As with our other treatments, massage is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment, and if there is anything your therapist feels uncomfortable about during your consultation, you may be asked to obtain permission from your midwife or consultant before going ahead with the massage treatment.

Are there age restrictions on treatments?

We recognise that the relaxing and restorative benefits of massage on the mind as well as the body can make it the perfect treatment for young people wanting to zone out for a while. We are happy to work with clients between the ages of 12 and 15 on a case by case basis, and always in the presence of a parent or carer (we have a very comfortable chair in the treatment room). Please get in touch with us via email or social media to discuss the best course of treatment. Please note, our Lift facial rejuvenation treatment and our mobile services are only available to people aged 16 and over. There is no upper age limit for treatments of any kind!

Cancellation

We completely understand that sometimes it's necessary to cancel or rearrange your treatment for any number of reasons. As a small, independent business, we would ask for as much notice as possible in these situations so that we are able to advertise the space or offer it to other clients. If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment with less than 48 hours notice on two occasions then we will ask that you pay a 50% deposit for your next treatment to secure the booking. Cancellations within 24 hours of the treatment and no-shows will incur the full cost of the treatment booked before rebooking further appointments. This can be done via bank transfer or via our website. Thankfully so far we have not had many occasions to bring this into action. All we ask is that you communicate with us as soon as you can - we're really very friendly.

Privacy

Link to our Privacy Policy coming soon. In the meantime, please be assured that any data you provide us with during the course of your consultation and treatment is securely retained solely for the purpose of your treatment. In your consultation form you'll be asked whether you'd like to consent to receiving our newsletter. I wish I could say this was a monthly occurence, but it's far more haphazard than that. Our aim is never to bombard you with emails you don't find useful or entertaining, so if you sign up and decide you don't want to be party to our witty insights, news items and information on new treatments and offers, you are of course welcome to unsubscribe at any time and we won't be (too) offended.
